This presentation will provide the attendees with an overview of current methods of gene specific therapies including ASO, gene therapy and genomic editing. We will use the lens of two neuromuscular diseases: Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) to highlight the benefit of gene specific therapies on the natural history of these conditions and their evolving phenotypes. We will provide an overview of the current physical therapy standards of care and consensus guidelines for SMA and DMD. Case studies of people receiving gene therapy pre and post-symptomatically will be utilized to highlight the evolution of physical therapy treatment programs, goals and outcomes measures.
